The City of Mondamin’s new water treatment plant is an infrastructure project that marks a significant milestone for the community. The new facility replaces the City’s original 70-year-old water treatment plant and groundwater wells, which had long exceeded their useful life and were no longer capable of meeting current demands.

The need for a new facility stemmed from increasing system failures, outdated technology, and water quality concerns. With the completion of the new water treatment plant, residents and businesses will benefit from a more reliable, efficient, and safe water system, ensuring access to clean drinking water for generations to come.

Key features of the new plant include:

• Two new 85-foot-deep groundwater wells with 10” PVC casings
• A 1,400-square-foot treatment building housing a treatment room, and chemical room
• Redundant sand filters, chemical feed pumps, and high-service pumps equipped with
variable frequency drives
• New underground electrical service and a backup generator to ensure continued
operation during emergencies
• Installation of 1,800 linear feet of new 6” and 8” PVC water mains throughout town
• New residential water meters installed in all homes and businesses

Funding for the project totaled more than $5 million, made possible through critical grant support and long-term financing:

• USDA Grant: $1,692,000
• Community Development Block Grant (CDBG): $300,000
• Water Treatment Assistance Program (WTAP) Grant: $150,000
• USDA Loan: $2,908,000 (40-year term at 1.875% interest)

“This new facility isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s about investing in the health, growth, and future of Mondamin,” said Ethan Joy of JEO Consulting Group. “Reliable, safe water is foundational to a community’s well-being, and we’re excited about what this means for Mondamin residents today and in the years to come.”
