Le Quartier Bakery & Café
A bakery can be a quick stop. It can also be a place to slow down and stay for a while.
When Le Quartier Bakery & Café opened its second Lincoln location in South Lincoln, the goal was to make room for both. The new Edgewood café gives customers another place to enjoy the bakery’s breads, pastries, breakfast, and lunch, while also creating space to meet a friend, get some work done, bring the family, or simply relax.
Le Quartier has been part of the Lincoln community since 2006, growing from a small bakery into a business with locations across Lincoln and Omaha. For its new South Lincoln location, the team wanted to accommodate more dine-in customers without losing the convenience of a busy bakery.
Our team helped design the space around the way customers move through it.
At the center of the café, a curved wood counter serves as the point of sale, product display and main path through the space. It helps keep grab-and-go traffic moving while leading customers toward the seating area.
The design also brings familiar Le Quartier details into the new space. Polished concrete, reclaimed wood, and color give the café a warm, straightforward material palette. The bakery’s logo appears in wall graphics near the entrance, while suspended bread peels overhead offer a nod to the baking process happening behind the scenes.
But the space isn’t meant for just moving customers through the bakery. It gives them a reason to stay. A table can be a place to catch up over coffee. A quiet corner can become a spot to work for an hour. A pastry can turn into an afternoon stop with the kids.
That was an important part of creating a second Le Quartier location in South Lincoln. The bakery provides the food, while the space gives people room to enjoy it and spend time together.
For our team, the project is a good example of how design can support a growing business while also adding something useful to the neighborhood: a comfortable place to grab a bite, slow down, and spend time together.
