We are pleased to announce that Mark Lutjeharms has joined JEO as a senior project manager in Lincoln, Nebraska. Lutjeharms’ 25 years of traffic engineering and transportation planning experience will strengthen the Traffic & Technology team’s ability to invest in communities and help our clients be successful.
Lutjeharms joins JEO after leading the City of Lincoln’s Traffic Engineering Division. Highlights of his public service include working with his team to develop new school zone safety standards and further implementation of Green Light Lincoln, the agency’s multi-year program to upgrade traffic signal timings and equipment city-wide.
Prior to joining the city, Lutjeharms spent 20 years in consulting, giving him valuable insight into both the public and private sector. During that time, Lutjeharms served on the planning/design team that led to the ongoing construction of the Lincoln South Beltway and he was a key design team member for the West Haymarket redevelopment infrastructure.
Lutjeharms holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He describes his call to traffic engineering as “ironic,” considering “his home county had one traffic ‘signal,’ and that was just a flashing beacon between the high school and football field to cross the highway.”
“Mark is an industry leader in the field of Traffic Engineering. His superb mix of technical skills, project management, and customer service provides a huge boost to this exciting and growing team, and we’re thrilled to have him aboard,” says Lonnie Burklund, Traffic & Technology Department Leader.
Lutjeharms commented, “I am looking forward to collaborating with technical experts and clients to address transportation-related safety and operational issues in a cost-effective and practical manner.”
