On March 23, 2023, 24 women from JEO had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Women in STEM conference in Lincoln, Nebraska. This event brought together women from various fields in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The conference featured a diverse range of speakers, who shared their experiences and insights on everything from breaking into male-dominated fields to achieving work-life balance as a woman in STEM.
Some of the most memorable moments of the conference included:
Speeches: We heard inspiring speeches from several accomplished women in STEM. They shared their personal journeys, challenges they faced along the way, and advice for other women who aspire to pursue careers in STEM. The keynote speaker, Emily Calandrelli, host and co-executive producer of the hit Netflix series Emily’s Wonder Lab, spoke about the importance of science literacy, the benefits of space exploration, and the challenges for women in STEM.
Panel discussions: The conference also featured panel discussions that covered a wide range of topics, from mentorship and leadership to entrepreneurship and innovation. The panels included experts from different fields who shared their experiences and offered valuable insights on navigating the complex STEM landscape.
Networking opportunities: In addition to the keynote speeches and panel discussions, the conference provided ample opportunities for attendees to network and connect. We had the chance to meet and chat with fellow attendees from diverse backgrounds and potential mentors and collaborators.
The Women in STEM conference was a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting and empowering women in STEM. The event provided valuable insights and resources and created a sense of community and solidarity among women in STEM. It was an honor to be part of such a vibrant and inspiring event, and we look forward to attending similar events.
