The City of Gretna, Nebraska, had a vision to create a multi-dimensional park that would cater to the needs of its expanding community. The city partnered with JEO and other firms to turn this vision into reality. The result of this collaboration is Gretna Crossing Park, a 157-acre oasis situated on the southern edge of town.
At the heart of the park, you'll find the YMCA and aquatic center, which has an indoor pool and Nebraska's first drop-gate slide in the outdoor water park. The park is not just about water-based fun; it also features grass ball fields, batting cages, play structures, and natural areas with walking trails, pollinator gardens, and educational exhibits.
Beyond these amenities, the park offers a three-acre pond surrounded by walking trails, ADA-accessible fishing piers, and boardwalk bridges. Picnic shelters, restrooms, a frisbee golf course, and an off-leash dog park are strategically positioned to make the most of the pond's scenic views. An amphitheater designed to host various community events and a flat grassy area for informal play and practices completes the park's comprehensive features.
The park serves as a center for social interaction, with its various amenities providing spaces for gatherings, events, and recreational activities. Integrating the park into the Papio Missouri River NRD trail network and incorporating ADA-accessible features ensures that citizens of all ages and abilities can enjoy its offerings.
The creation of Gretna Crossing Park was a collaborative effort that involved input from the community, city representatives, and stakeholders at every stage of the project. This inclusive approach ensured that the park's design and budget decisions were well-informed and aligned with the city's vision. The park will draw visitors around the area, further enhancing Gretna's reputation as a fantastic place to live and play.
Gretna Crossing Park has been a ten-year project in the making, and it stands as a testament to successful collaboration, thoughtful design, and a commitment to creating a dynamic community space that caters to the growing population of Gretna.
