JEO is excited to announce the name change for our Environmental Engineering Department, which is now called the Water Infrastructure Group.
More than a decade ago, JEO’s Environmental Engineering Department was created and environmental sciences was part of this department. The department was conceived to cover both water quality and sciences. However, environmental sciences eventually moved out of this department. Following that move, the Environmental Engineering Department name still implied permitting, NEPA, protected species, wetlands, and air quality. This was ultimately the reasoning behind the name change.
In 2011, we had a department name contest, but it resulted in no gain. It was delayed until 2015, and this time several different ideas were considered. The name needed to identify:
- Aquatic Facilities
- Water Storage
- Water Treatment
- Wastewater Systems
- Water Systems
Our new department name better reflects a more inclusive framework for services we provide. Water identifies the pure basis of everything we touch: water systems, wastewater systems, and aquatic facilities. Infrastructure captures the means we utilize to improve and operate, such as pipes, pumps, and equipment. While Group suggests department function, allowing room for growth in industry and operations.
The Environmental Engineering Department is now Water Infrastructure Group.
