JEO is excited to announce Cole Peterson as our 2015 JEO scholarship recipient. He recently graduated from Wahoo High School with intentions of pursuing civil engineering at the University of Nebraska. Cole is involved throughout his school and community by participating in activities such as baseball, basketball, Junior Mates, and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). He has been a mentor for Junior Mates since 2011 and volunteers with Bethlehem Lutheran Church Group for various community service projects around the Saunders County area. He’s also served as captain of his baseball team for the 2015 season.
Cole says he has always loved taking things apart, putting them back together, and making improvements to the design. He remembers being younger and building with LEGOs. Cole enjoys hands-on activities and the opportunity to be creative. He also continues to be interested in the areas of math and science, as well as computer-aided drafting (CAD), which he was introduced to his junior year of high school. He says taking a CAD class opened his eyes to the field of engineering, and he looks forward to his future in civil engineering.
To be considered for JEO’s scholarship, you must be a graduating senior from Wahoo High School or Bishop Neumann High School with application of enrollment as a full-time student for a four- or two-year accredited school. The applicant must also have the intention of studying in one of the following areas: civil, sanitary, or electrical engineering; architecture; surveying; planning; or associated computer aided drafting (CAD).
Once the school year begins, the recipient must continue to be enrolled as a full-time student and maintain a 2.0 grade point average in classes related to his/her major area of study. This scholarship is worth $500, and is renewable for up to four years as long as the student maintains the initial requirements.
