OMAHA, NEBRASKA – Rebecca Appleford recently joined JEO Consulting Group, Inc. as hazard mitigation planner. With experience in climatology, geographic information science (GIS), and data analysis, Appleford brings a dynamic perspective to JEO’s growing hazard mitigation planning department.
“We chose to add Becky to our team because she has a firm understanding of the weather-related phenomenon that affects our clients,” said Jeff Henson, a project manager in the hazard mitigation department. “Her ability to understand the science behind such phenomenon while grasping the real-world implications will add great depth and value to the work we do.”
As a hazard mitigation planner, Appleford will work with communities to update hazard mitigation plans. She will also assist in community involvement efforts and help determine which strategies are most appropriate for building resilient communities.
Relocating from Clemson, S.C., to Omaha, Neb., Appleford was introduced to JEO through a long-time friend, and now fellow JEO employee. “My friend of 15 years spoke glowing words of the company, so when the hazard mitigation planner position opened, I was intrigued. It sounded like a position that my background will lend itself to, and a role that would challenge me,” Appleford said.
Appleford started at JEO on August 1, 2014, and continues to be excited about her new role. “I love the idea of helping communities reduce their risks to natural and man-made disasters,” she said.
Appleford has a bachelor’s degree in meteorology/climatology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She also has a master’s degree in atmospheric science with a certificate in geographic information science from the University of North Dakota.
