At the start of summer, kids have one thing on their mind — no more school. With this highly anticipated break, kids need new ways to stay busy during the hot summer days. They want to soak up the sun, drink juice boxes and play outside all day long.
That shouldn’t be a problem for Grand Island residents, with a new pool open just in time for Grand Island Public Schools’ summer break.
Last August, the Grand Island City Council voted to build a new Lincoln Park Pool, as it was more cost effective than to renovate the existing 40 year old pool. Less than a year of construction later, the pool is up and running. A “School’s Out, Pool’s In” celebration, including a formal symbolic cornerstone ceremony followed by the grand opening buoy cutting, was held May 23rd while the pool was officially opened for use on May 25th.
JEO Consulting Group was the engineering firm chosen to assist when construction began on the pool last August. During the grand opening ceremony, JEO’s Tyler Hevlin, PE, spoke about
the success of the project and the bright future for Lincoln Park Pool. He said,
Some neat features of the pool include zero depth entry, two diving boards, and a 150-foot water slide. Also included is an advanced pH and chlorine balance system, making sure safe levels of both are maintained at all times. While keeping kids active and busy is a must during the summer, safety measures cannot be forgotten. Make sure to take all necessary precautions while at the pool to allow for a fun and safe summer for everyone!
